Building a Six-Week Application Cadence for the German Market
A week-by-week application rhythm for software professionals running a focused German job search without burning out.
Spray-and-pray applications fail quietly in Germany. Employers notice generic Anschreiben; agency recruiters remember candidates who cannot explain why this city or this stack. A six-week cadence keeps quality high enough to earn interviews.
Week 1 — foundations
Finalise Lebenslauf and LinkedIn. Build a target list of twenty employers across two city or remote tracks. Write one reusable cover-letter skeleton with slots for team and product specifics.
Weeks 2–3 — volume with review
Submit eight to twelve tailored applications per week. Log each in a simple sheet: role, contact, date, follow-up. Spend one session with an advisor (or a trusted peer) reviewing rejected patterns.
Weeks 4–5 — interviews and referrals
Protect calendar blocks for take-homes and mocks. Ask for referrals only after you can describe the team’s product in two sentences. Decline roles that break your city or visa constraints — scattered interviews waste Probezeit planning later.
Week 6 — offer readiness
If offers appear, slow down. Compare total compensation, not base alone. Schedule contract review. If nothing is live, revise the target list rather than doubling blind applications.
This cadence is the backbone of our German Market Job Search Strategy engagement: you execute; we keep the rhythm honest.
